What is an IPL Photofacial?

Here at Ageless Rejuvenation Center, we provide IPL or Intense Pulsed Light as a method of photorejuvenation that improves your skin’s texture, tone, and appearance. This treatment is perfect for clients looking to treat areas of the skin where there is sun damage, age spots, dark spots, rosacea, redness, acne scars, or fine lines and wrinkles.

How does it work?

IPL photofacial treatments use high intensity pulses of broadband light. It is a non-ablative treatment, which means that it doesn’t do any damage to the surface of the skin. It works by delivering intense pulsed light to deeper areas of the skin (the dermis) and leaves the superficial aspect of the skin (the epidermis) untouched.

Who is a candidate for IPL photofacial?

IPL photofacial is suitable for anyone who has areas of the skin with age spots, sun damage, and rosacea. It can also treat fine lines and wrinkles, red complexion, acne scars, and large pores. IPL works best on patients with a light to medium complexion.

Is IPL painful?

IPL causes minimal discomfort. You will feel a warm sensation over the areas being treated and some patients have described a feeling similar to an elastic band being “snapped” on the skin. We offer ice after your treatment to help soothe any discomfort.

What to expect during an IPL Photofacial Treatment

IPL Photofacials are quick treatments with minimal discomfort. A typical treatment will follow the steps below:

Preparation: Your skin is cleaned and a topical gel is applied to your face. Your eyes are covered with protective glasses or eye shields.

IPL treatment: Intense pulsed light is applied to your targeted treatment areas. You will feel a warm sensation as the light passes over your skin.  After treatment: Depending on the sensitivity of your skin, you may experience mild swelling and redness for 2-5 days after your treatment.  Recovery: The healing process varies from patient to patient, and a normal recovery period could last anywhere from two to five days. You can expect to see a improvement in your overall skin texture and discoloration within a week of treatment.       Most cases require multiple treatment sessions to achieve optimal results. The more significant your skin condition, the more treatments will be necessary.
